Use Ada by Email

Use Ada by email when you want help from a normal email thread. Write to Ada directly, forward Ada a thread, or copy Ada into a conversation when you want Ada to help with that conversation.

Email is different from Slack, Linear, GitHub, and Discord. A person starts by sending Ada a message. The important question is what message was sent to Ada and which email address Ada connects to a Lovelace account.

Who This Guide Is For

Use this guide if you are:

  • a person emailing Ada for the first time
  • a teammate forwarding a thread to Ada
  • a person copying Ada into a conversation with other people
  • an admin reviewing what Ada can see in email
  • a support or success teammate helping someone fix Ada over email

What Ada Can Do By Email

Email situationWhat Ada does
You email Ada directlyAda replies in the same thread.
You forward Ada a threadAda uses the forwarded content you sent.
You copy Ada into a conversationAda participates in that thread when asked.
You return days laterAda continues from the same email thread.
Ada needs to know who you areAda asks you to connect your email address to Lovelace.

Ada identifies itself as Ada. Ada never pretends to be the person it helps.

What Ada Can See

Ada only sees email content that is sent to Ada. Forwarding one thread or copying Ada on one conversation does not give Ada access to the rest of a mailbox.

If Ada is copied into a thread with other people, Ada uses the messages in that thread to answer the request. Copy Ada only when the people in that thread need to see Ada participate.

Email Ada Directly

Send a message to your team's Ada email address.

text
Can you help me turn this thread into a short action list?

Ada replies in the same email thread. If Ada asks you to connect your email address to Lovelace, follow that prompt before asking for work tied to your Lovelace account.

Forward Ada A Thread

Forward a thread when you want Ada to use the content you explicitly send. Include the question you want Ada to answer at the top of the forwarded email.

Good:

text
Ada, summarize the decision points in the forwarded thread and list open
questions.

Avoid forwarding unrelated messages just because they were nearby in your mailbox.

Copy Ada Into A Thread

Copy Ada into a thread when the people in the thread need Ada's reply. Write a clear instruction so Ada knows why it was added.

text
Adding Ada to draft the follow-up checklist from this conversation.

When new people are added to a thread, Ada remains clearly identified as Ada.

Account Connection

Ada asks you to connect your email address to Lovelace when Ada needs to know which Lovelace account is yours.

An unconnected email address starts only a limited conversation. Ada does not silently treat that address as a Lovelace user until the connection is confirmed.

Stopping Email From Ada

Some Ada email messages include a way to stop future mail. Use that link when you do not want proactive Ada email at that address.

Stopping proactive email does not delete Lovelace-owned conversations or Library resources. It changes whether Ada keeps sending mail to that address.

Data And History

Ada uses the email content explicitly sent to Ada. Lovelace-owned conversations, Library resources, and account history remain available in Lovelace after an email thread ends.

Be careful with forwarded or copied conversations that include people who did not ask Ada for help. Send only what Ada needs to answer the request.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to check
Ada did not replyConfirm the message was sent to the correct Ada email address and check spam or filtering rules.
Ada replied without the context you expectedMake sure the relevant thread content was included in the message sent to Ada.
Ada asks you to connect your email addressFollow the connection prompt so Ada matches the address to your Lovelace account.
Ada replied to the wrong peopleCheck whether Ada was copied into a shared thread and who was included on the latest reply.
You do not want more proactive emailUse the stop or unsubscribe option in Ada's email.
Ending email did not delete Lovelace historyThis is expected. Email access and Lovelace-owned history are separate.
